What affects the price
The vehicle and engine come first. Filter size, access, and the aftertreatment layout differ between a pickup, a Class 8 truck, a bus, or farm equipment, and so does the work involved.
Filter condition matters just as much. The amount of soot and ash, signs of oil contamination, and whether the filter is cracked or melted all change what can be done. A damaged filter cannot be restored by cleaning.
Location counts too: mobile service within 120 miles of Upland involves travel, while service at our Upland workshop does not. We confirm those details in your quote.
Removal, reinstallation and downtime
Conventional cleaning removes the DPF from the vehicle and cleans it in a dedicated station, so removal and reinstallation labor is part of the job. EPA's guidance also notes that the filter must be reinstalled in the correct flow direction, and that fleets concerned about downtime may keep spare filters in stock.
When the filter's condition allows, our cleaning happens with the DPF installed, so there is no removal or reinstallation. It typically takes 2–3 hours depending on filter condition, not counting travel, waiting, or repairs.
Downtime is a cost even when it is not on the invoice: a parked truck is not earning. Include it when you compare quotes.
Cleaning or replacement?
When the filter can be restored, cleaning may avoid an unnecessary replacement and its cost. If the filter is cracked, melted, or otherwise damaged, it needs replacement, and cleaning will not fix it.
Frequent restriction can also point to another problem. EPA notes that an engine emitting excessive particulate matter or experiencing inadequate regeneration will make a DPF need more frequent cleaning, and that diagnostics should identify the cause.
